Michio Kaku has many good ideas and is a fantastic presenter, but he has some wobbly ideas about politics. His world government sounds scarily Orwelian to me. While I agree that there must be some kinds of world government (UN, international Criminal Court, World Trade Organisation) I think that a lot of power needs to be devolved downwards. I’m not talking about local government, I’m talking about non-government. The 20th century should have taught us one lesson about politics – big government harms individuals. I’d like people to reclaim power over their own lives.
Governments are already a BIG problem for future humans. Even worse is the capitalist greed is good business practices that prevail. Some new formation of companies that monitor and provide feedback and guidance will be pushing themselves into the mix. It is the age of outsourcing and specialty companies. I don’t see this as likely to change. It seems likely to proceed. I do think that the picture painted by Kaku is stated simply as if it were finely detailed somewhere – its the future and the unknown and his ideas are unknown as to the impact and effectiveness. However, as far as the present time, already the banks own all and the greed is good culture led us to abut 1% of the world population that is now able to control the financial resources of the world. I think they act irresponsibly, diminish the appreciation for diversity and enslave us… and this seems to me to be what the ideas hat Kaku is supporting will bring abut more so. How can the benefits of saving the rich out way the slavery of everyone below them? I do not believe the bankers ought to now also own science.

I think a combination of both can help the world but unfortunately with some it is all or nothing.
