A small 2010 study of 10 healthy dog owners by researchers at Virginia Commonwealth’s Center for Human-Animal Interaction found that both unfamiliar and familiar dogs provoked similar reactions: a relaxation response and reduction in blood pressure and levels of cortisol, a stress-related hormone, according to Dr. Sandra Barker, director of the center and a professor of psychiatry… more

Animals are wonderful. I wish I could have a menagerie.
I know this to be true. Ali is TD’s companion cat and she keeps him calm when his blood pressure is high and helps to bring it down by calming him down.
I know so as well. I’ve seen it that my son is brighter inside because of his dog. Now, he’s got a second dog — a recovery from abuse success story. These pets give him reason to smile and appreciate life. The puppy Yorkshire pic that I use is another rescue. My son and I found him and he was a mess — we cleaned him and nourished him and got him well and a nice home. It did wonders for us and the puppy too and he (Gingho) brings great joy into the nice family that he lives with. Just keeping his picture means a lot to me.
I always believe this to be true. In several hospitals, they allow horses, miniature horses, etc to come in and visit. Very cool.
Its the power of unconditional love. Its got to be that simple — only we can see it in an animal so perfectly.
