New approach makes cancer cells explode
Researchers have discovered that a substance called Vacquinol-1 makes cells from glioblastoma, the most aggressive type of brain tumor, literally explode. The established treatments that are available for glioblastoma include surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. But even if this treatment is given the average survival is just 15 months. It is therefore critical to find better treatments for malignant brain tumors. see: http://ki.se/en/news/new-approach-makes-cancer-cells-explode
Older adults: Build muscle and you’ll live longer
The more muscle mass older Americans have, the less likely they are to die prematurely, new research shows. The findings add to the growing evidence that overall body composition — and not the widely used body mass index, or BMI — is a better predictor of all-cause mortality. “In other words, the greater your muscle mass, the lower your risk of death,” said the study’s co-author. “Thus, rather than worrying about weight or body mass index, we should be trying to maximize and maintain muscle mass.” see: http://www.uclahealth.org/body.cfm?id=561&action=detail&ref=2401
I hope you’ll come back often — there is more to be discovered.
